Randhir Das, a well-known writer, film critic and editor of the monthly literary-cum-Cine magazine ‘Jeevan Ranga’, was born on September 23, 1938 in Cuttack city. His father was Narendra Prasad Das and Kalyani Devi was his mother. After secondary education from Ravenshaw Collegiate School, he completed he graduated from Ravenshaw College before pursuing civil engineering at Madras. He had a special interest in literature and film. It would not be an exaggeration to say that literature was the mainstay of his creative life. Since 1963, he had eight collections of short stories and three novels published. Important among them are: ‘Gotie Kendra Duiti Brutta’, ‘Lohita Sandhya’, ‘Galpa: Aaji O Kali’, ‘Jhada O Jhankar’, ‘Sesha Pahacha’ and ‘Randhir Dasanka Katha O Kahani’. His stories were also aired on the Akashvani and Doordarshan, Cuttack. He has a number of published articles on film reviews.  Many hail him as a successful film critic.

Most importantly, he was a good organiser and an editor. Under his editorship, the ‘Jeevan Ranga’, a literary magazine, was published for about 45 years. The magazine's role in creating new writers is acknowledged. With the help of the magazine, he tried to promote literature and performing arts. The magazine played an important role in film review. During his later days, he had opened a school to provide training on acting to youths.

Randhir Das was awarded and felicitated by many institutions such as the Prajatantra Prachar Samiti, Chitrapuri and the International Theatre etc. for his contribution to Odia literature and Odisha’s film industry. He breathed his last on February 7, 2022 at his Dagarpada residence at the age of 84 after prolonged illness.
