Shri Jadunath Das Mohapatra was a prolific writer as well as a successful politician. He was born in Kodei village of Balasore district. His father's name was Shri Rajnarayan Das Mohapatra. Shri Das Mohapatra was elected to the Odisha Legislative Assembly three times from Sora in Balasore district. He also served as minister in the governments led by Nandini Satpathy and Janaki Ballav Pattanaik. For his contribution to Odia literature in the fields of Novel, Drama, One-act Plays, Poetry and Children’s Literature, he was honoured with the Odisha Sahitya Academy Award, Jhankar Kavita Award, Ramachandra Mishra Natak Samman, Bhubaneswar Pustaka Mela Samman and Konark National Natya Samman. Shri Das Mohapatra was active in politics since his student days, and while studying in Calcutta, he was president of the Kolkata Utkal Students Union. He has, to his credit, more than 60 published works including 12 plays, 7 collections of short stories, 10 poetry collections, 8 books on children's literature, 15 novels, 6 monographs, 2 compilations of essays, and 2 translation workss. In addition to that, a film has also been made based on his play ‘Bhuli Huena’.
