Shri Saubhagya Kumar Mishra is well known as one of the pioneers of post-modern Odia poetry. Mr. Mishra was born in Berhampur city in Ganjam district. He was born to parents, Shri Damodar Mishra and Shreemati Savitri Devi. Since 1955, Saubhagya Mishra has written more than 25 books. After graduating with a first class first in PG, and then a doctorate, Shri Mishra started his career as a college lecturer. After teaching at BJB College and Ravenshaw College, he retired as a professor and head of the English department of Berhampur University in 2001. In 1986, he received the Central Sahitya Akademi Award for his poetry collection ‘Dwa Suparna’. So far, about 15 of his poetry collections have been published. For his lifetime literary contribution, he has been honoured with the Kendra Sahitya Akademi Award, Odisha Sahitya Akademi Award, Sahitya Bharati Award, Governor's Honor Plaque, Bishuba Award, Sarala Award, Gangadhar National Award, Sachi Routray Poetry Award, and the first Writer-in-Residence Award of Ravenshaw University.
