Mrs. Amiyabala Pattanayak is a prominent translator and poet. Since childhood, a strong attraction towards Odia language and literature had developed within her. For the past five decades, she was completely into literary activities besides her profession as a teacher. Due to her unparalleled linguistic and outstanding translation skill, she has received accolades all over the country. So far, she has translated to Odia over 22 books of eminent writers of different languages, including the Love Letters of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and the short stories of Parswanath Renu. Her collection ‘Renu Rachana’ brought her the Kendra Sahitya Academy Award in 2010. Mrs. Amiyabala has to her credit at least 55 books including 8 anthologies of poems. Apart from her mother tongue Odia, she is quite proficient in multiple languages ??like Hindi, English, Bengali, and Telugu. In 1976, her first poem appeared in the literary section of the daily Prajatantra, and thence she has never looked back. A teacher by profession, Amiyabala was awarded the Kendra Sahitya Academi Translation Award in 2010 for ‘Renu Rachana’ in consideration of her exceptional performance in the field of translation. She was also honoured with the Utkal Sahitya Samaj award, Gangadhar Rath Foundation Award, Satabdi Award and the Jhankar Translation Award. She is possibly the only Odia woman author-cum-translator having over 55 books to her credit. A neo-romantic poet, cosmic consciousness has been the principal tone of her poetry. She is free from the so-called isms and literary groupism. She has, more or less, the deprived people, especially women, as principal characters of her stories.
