Odiaa archaeologist, historian and researcher Krushnachandra Panigrahi was born into a Brahmin family in Khiching in the erstwhile state of Mayurbhanj. His father died when he was only ten years old. But financial hardship and ill health could not hinder his progress. He used to cook for teachers and cut grass. Being talented he got a scholarship, but it could not help him much.
Dr Panigrahi was a post-graduate in History from the then Ravenshaw College and had his Ph.D. in Sanskrit from Utkal University. He was an archaeologist under the Government of India from 1937 to 1944 and also worked as an archaeologist at the State Museum of Odisha from 1947 to 1951. He then shifted to teaching. His teaching career began at Ravenshaw College, and he retired from Berhampur University as a professor of history.
Dr Panigrahi has written many historical, socio-cultural and literary essays. During his lifetime, he was awarded the Padma Shri, the Odisha Sahitya Akademi Award, the Sarla Award, and the Prajatantra Prachar Samiti Bishuv Milan Award besides being felicitated by the Odisha Sahitya Akademi.
