Odia novelist Kahnucharan Mohanty is known name in each and every house of Odisha. He was one of the best and the most prolific litterateurs Odisha has ever produced. He has been immortalised for his outstanding literary achievements. As a great novelist he has earned a special place of his own in the literary firmament.
Kahnucharan was born in the village Nagabali under the then undivided Cuttack district. From early age, Kahnucharan had deep inclination towards literature. He was highly influenced by the literary works of Fakir Mohan Senapati. Some of his poems were published in his school magazine while studying at the Pyarimohan Academy. But he could not concentrate on writing poetry. He thought, “If I cannot write poetry in Sanskrit, there will be no justification of being a poet”. He later realised that prose could also be written in the language of his ancestors. Thence started his literary journey, churning out novels one after another. He was awarded the prestigious Kendra Sahitya Akademi Award for his popular novel “Ka”. He also won the Odisha Sahitya Akademi Award. He will always be in the hearts of readers for his creations like Ha Anna, Baliraja, Adekha Hata and many others.
