Murarimohan Jena

Poet Murarimohan Jena was born on October 15, 1932 in Bhagatpur, Cuttack. His father's name was Harekrushna Jena and his mother was Kaminibala Devi. Although he spent his life in government service as a labor official, he gained wide reputation as a rebel poet. He was a staunch critic of the divide between man and man, poverty, exploitation, prejudices and superstitions prevalent in the social system, and the ‘injustice of God to the miserable’ which is reflected in his poetry.

His books include: ‘Shankaracharya’ (biography); ‘Khara O Chhai’, ‘Shaishabara Swapna’, ‘Hey Daktar Koramin Banda Kara’, ‘Bhagaban Mu Tumaku Thia Phadidebi’, ‘Mo Naan’re Kukura Paliba’, ‘Daki Mu Kahuchhi Murari Jena’, ‘Chup Kara’, ‘Aaji Mora Astamare Shani’, ‘Murari Jenanka Shrestha Kabita’, ‘Murari Jenanka Sahe Ek Kabita’, ‘Mu Tumara Chari Maasa Juta Sapha Karibi’ (poetry);  ‘Hanuman Janma’, ‘Ahalya Parinaya’, ‘Bali Sugriva Janma’, ‘Sri Radhakrushna’ (plays); ‘Sahityika Sinhabalokan’, ‘Pancha Pradeep’ (discussion), ‘Sahityika Godabarish Mohapatra’, ‘Pranaya-Patara’, ‘Sabha O Sahitya’, ‘Kabichandranka Samparkare’, ‘O Deenabandhu O Gopabandhu’, ‘Samantasinhar Samiksha’, ‘Kabikanthe Sreejagannath’, ‘Laxmidhar Nayak’, ‘Lekhanira Subarna Jayanti’, ‘Shri Jagannatha : Tathya O Tatwa’, ‘Banikantha Nimai Harichandan Smaraki Grantha’ and ‘Aama Samayar Ketoti Kabita’.

Jenakabi compiled souvenirs like ‘Godabarish Smaranika’, ‘Pranakrushna Smaranika’, ‘Bichhanda Smaranika’, ‘Shastri Smaranika’, ‘Kabi Balakrushna Smaranika’ as well as edited satirical magazines like ‘Bidyut’, ‘Tentulichhat’, ‘Olua Danga’ and ‘Jaunlibeta’ etc. He also edited the ‘Shramik’ magazine which highlighted the problems faced by the labour class people and their solutions.
